Animal testing Lab’s in the UK

They are well knowing Labs in the UK (HLS, Covance Labs, Quantiles toxicology pathology service, Bibra and inveresk research)

These Labs conduct testing on behalf of pharmaceuticals , agrochemical and house hold products, quite likely to be conducting tests for overseas companies as well.

Common type testing is for toxicity testing lethal does (LD50)

Animals are fed the substance which causes them to be in pain most of the animals being tested on die

HLS this is a well knowing company that torture animals in there labs

WHAT DO THEY TEST?

We have many examples of pointless experiments carried out at HLS, but the ones we feature here are amongst the most striking. Remember every drug or product that is withdrawn because of serious side effects, every pesticide that proves to be carcinogenic, every stupid ‘new and improved’ household product that we don’t need, Huntingdon will have forced that product down the throats of thousands of animals and then passed it safe just for it later to go on to maim, harm and kill humans.

CLEANING CHEMICALS

During this experiment, HLS forced pregnant and lactating female rats to inhale the chemical in varying doses by placing them in tube-shaped inhalation devices not much bigger than their bodies. This was not only to see the effect on the mother rats but the unborn and already weaning babies. The rats, numbering over 50 adult females and numerous babies, were forced to inhale this substance for a total of 31 days. Once the experiment was completed, the rats were all killed and dissected to have their internal organs weighed and examined.

Convance Labs

Covance, Inc. (NYSECVD), formerly Corning Incorporated,[1] with headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey, USA, is a contract research organization (CRO), providing drug development and animal testing services. According to its website, it is one of the largest companies of its kind in the world, with annual revenues of over US$1.7 billion, operations in more than 25 countries, and over 9,800 employees worldwide. It provides the world’s largest central laboratory network, and employs a global team of clinical-trial professionals and cardiac-safety experts. It became a publicly traded company after being spun off by Corning, Inc., in 1997.

Under the name Covance Research Products Inc. (CRP), based in Denver, Pennsylvania, the company also deals in the import and sale of laboratory animals. It is the single largest importer of primates in the U.S. and the world’s largest breeder of laboratory dogs. It owns two dog-breeding facilities, two primate centers, and a rabbit-breeding facility.

The company has been the subject of controversy, following allegations of primate abuse in its laboratories in Germany and the United States, and a potential outbreak of the Ebola virus.

Toxicology Pathology

They test for the presence of antibody to infectious agents in the serum of mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, and rabbits. Our methodologies include Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA), Hemagglutination Inhibition (HAI), and Western Blot (WB)

Bibra this was closed down

BIBRA Animal Labs Close Down

The British Industrial Biological Research Association (BIBRA) has a long standing history of animal abuse and torment, testing on behalf of a variety of companies ranging from Boots the Chemist to AstraZeneca. Rodents, rabbits, primates, beagles and other unfortunate animals were used at this Contract Research Organisation for toxicology experiments.!

BIBRA (Woodmansterne Road, Carshalton, Surrey SM5 4DS) has a long standing history of animal rights focus, with the site being subject to mass invasions and protests up until recent years.

We are pleased to announce that they have now shut down and the site is to change into a school, with all the security fencing, cameras, alarm systems and laboratories being stripped at the moment; although all buildings are still alarmed.

Their sister organisation, BIBRA Information Services, is still in operation, running from a small office in the town centre, however they are not involved in conducting animal experimentation.

  1. Correz says:

Reasonable concern for respectful treatment of animals is one thing.

The implication that animal testing of pharmaceutical products is unacceptable is quite another thing since this directly infers that it is acceptable to directly test new drugs in humans.

Prior testing of new drugs in animals is not an option; it is the law for all countries who are signatories to Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Removing animal testing from the drug development process is akin the advocating a return to the drug development processes of the 40s, 50s & 60s which saw humans injured and maimed because insufficient pre-clinical (=animal) testing was performed before drugs were initially administered to humans.

Think Nazi Germany. Think Sulphanilamide Disaster, Think Thalidomide Disaster. Essentually you are advocating a return to these times.

    • shncrn says:

Technology has advanced to such a stage that the use of animals is uneccessary and potentially lethal to humans. Computer modelling and culturing of human tissue among other things, provide far more accurate results as far as how a medicine for HUMAN use, will affect a HUMAN disease or illness. The vast majority of research which is carried out today is repetitive (something which would be avoided if the drug companies shared their results) and so obvious that child could predict the results. Do we really need to drill a hole in an animals skull, insert a condom and fill it with water to be able to tell that trauma will occur…..?
And just because something is “law” does NOT mean that it’s right. It just means that the scientific community have built themselves up as “demi gods” and people are too scared to question their “authority”. It’s the oldest trick in the book using scientific knowledge to manipulate the uneducated masses.

  2. Alison says:

Is Correz suggesting that if you dont test on animals youll get another Thalidomide?
Maybe someone should tell Correz that Thalidomide was tested on animals, and decided that it was safe, thats what testing on animals does – animal testing gave the world thalidomide

and now because of that, tests are done to PREGNANT animals, so even in the animal world, the female of the species suffers from extreme abuse, just because she is female

AND even though you say, testing on animal replaces testing on humans, ALL pharma products are ultimately tested on humans, witness how many drugs are recalled due to side effects, which they only find out about After theyve been on sale for a few years – only they arent called “human trials” they are called “profitable sales”
